Adding the GARAN-Label and legal guarantee notice in Shopify

Two native Shopify building blocks are enough to add both labels correctly, so a subscription app isn't strictly necessary.

As of 8 July 2026, Shopify offers no official way to add this labelling, but the platform provides two native building blocks, theme sections and metafields, that are sufficient for it. This page is a recommendation based on the current market situation, not legal advice.

Legal guarantee notice: add it as a theme section

Since the legal guarantee notice is identical for every product, a one-time embed as a section in the product template is enough. You don't need to repeat it for each product.

Implementation requires access to the theme code (Liquid). This is usually straightforward on standard themes; for heavily customised themes, check with the agency maintaining it.

GARAN-Label: use a product metafield (type image)

The GARAN-Label differs per product (brand, model, guarantee duration) and must first be generated through our platform before you can add it to Shopify (see the section below). After that:

  1. Create a metafield definition of type "file" or "image" for products.
  2. Upload the generated GARAN-Label per product.
  3. Output it at the desired place in the product template.

Important: the GARAN-Label must not appear as an additional product image in the regular image gallery. Use the metafield to place it specifically in the information area of the product page, for example below the product description or next to shipping information, so it's clearly recognisable as additional information rather than a product photo.

How to generate the labels

Start by creating a free account at GARAN-Label.com. Then decide how you want to generate the labels:

Small catalogue

Manual mode: enter brand, model, and guarantee duration, download the label right away, and upload it as a metafield.

Large catalogue

CSV mode, followed by a bulk import of the image URLs into the metafields.

Keeping metafields up to date at scale

For ongoing syncing when products are added or guarantee durations change, one of the common Shopify apps for CSV data syncing, such as Matrixify, is recommended. These apps support CSV import/export including metafields, and combine directly with the tool's CSV mode.

Alternative: let an agency implement it

If you'd rather not do the technical implementation yourself, you can delegate it to a Shopify agency to set up the theme section and metafields for you.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Shopify

Do I need an app to add the GARAN-Label in Shopify?

No. A product metafield of type image/file is enough to store the GARAN-Label per product. A paid subscription app isn't required for this.

Can I just add the GARAN-Label to the regular product images?

No. The GARAN-Label is product-specific additional information, not a product photo. Output it via the metafield in the information area of the product page, not in the regular image gallery.

Does the metafield approach also work with Shopify Plus / custom checkout extensions?

Yes. Metafields are a native Shopify feature available on all plans, including Shopify Plus. Custom checkout extensions typically affect the checkout process, not the product page where the label is displayed.

How do I keep metafields up to date with frequent product changes?

For ongoing syncing, one of the common Shopify apps for CSV data import/export with metafield support, such as Matrixify, is recommended. This lets you combine the tool's CSV mode directly with a bulk metafield update.
