Adding the GARAN-Label and legal guarantee notice on eBay

eBay also allows HTML in the item description. For professional eBay sellers, that's the only permitted way to place the label directly alongside the product details.

As of 8 July 2026, eBay has not published an official specification for how the legal guarantee notice or the GARAN-Label must be displayed in listings. The legal requirement for commercial sellers still applies from 27 September 2026 regardless. This page is a recommendation based on the current market situation, not legal advice.

Adding it to the item description

Permitted: in the item description (HTML)

eBay allows custom HTML in the item description. Embed the label there as an image, in the information area around the product details. You can also link directly to the full guarantee terms next to it.

Not permitted: as an additional listing image

The GARAN-Label is product-specific additional information, not a product photo. It doesn't belong in the listing image gallery.

How to generate the labels

Start by creating a free account at GARAN-Label.com. Then decide how you want to generate the labels: for individual items or small ranges, use manual mode. For large ranges, use CSV mode. You get a result file with the respective label URL for each row.

Important: download the label and host it yourself

Every label is initially reachable via a direct URL. For long-term use, you should still download the image and upload it to your own item description or your own infrastructure: we delete labels from our server 30 days after generation. Linking directly to our URL long-term would result in a broken image in your item description once that period has passed.

Legal guarantee notice or GARAN-Label: which do you need?

The legal guarantee notice is mandatory for all listings from commercial sellers and free of charge. The GARAN-Label is only additionally required if you advertise a voluntary manufacturer guarantee of more than 2 years.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about eBay

Can I add the label as an additional listing image instead?

No. The GARAN-Label is product-specific additional information, not a product photo. Add it as an image directly in the item description instead, in the information area around the product details.

Do I need to add the label to every single listing, or is the shop homepage enough?

The label must appear on each affected listing itself. A notice only on the shop homepage isn't sufficient, since customers can also reach listings directly via search.

Does this requirement also apply to classified ads or private eBay sales?

No. The labelling requirement applies to commercial sellers in B2C business. Purely private sales between individuals are not covered.
